Lawn care services in Newmarket, Ontario

Spring is no time to ignore your lawn and landscape. “What you do now will determine the quality of your family yard this summer,” said Arman S., president and CEO of Como Maintenance Services, the property maintenance company located in Toronto.

Many people give up when it comes to thick, lush and healthy looking lawn. But why is that?
As Spring approaches, new green grass starts to grow as well as some weeds as Dandelion. Leaving one or two Dandelions in your yard isn't a big deal, when it gets a big deal is when from two gets 10-20 or more! That is when Dandelions take over and that is when many people give up. Giving up or forgetting to maintain the lawn in time will cause more issues down the road.

It’s important to take care of your yard, after all, your living landscape does a lot for you. It produces oxygen, reduces the urban heat island effect, filters and captures runoff, improves air quality, absorbs carbon dioxide, and keeps your neighbours impressed. You benefit when your yard is in top shape.

Como Maintenance Services offers the following checklist to make sure your yard is ready for relaxing and fun outdoor activities during Spring and Summer.

  • Before starting to mow, be sure the Dandelions are out of your yard, don't use harsh chemicals because they may damage your lawn as well, not to mention it is not healthy for us and our pets.
  • Fill all Dandelion holes with mixture of lawn soil and seeds.
  • Water your lawn every morning for at least a week.
  • After you see new grass growth, reduce watering to every second day.
  • If you have more seeded area, wait for at least 3 weeks before mowing, fragile new grass can be easily damaged by mower wheels.
  • Before you start to mow, make sure mower blades are sharp. Replace them when necessary.
  • Correct mowing makes the lawn denser. This will not only result in a lush yard, it will also lessen the weeds.
  • Do not mow when the grass is wet. This will maintain an even cut. Wet leaves tend to cling to the blades.
  • Early mornings and late afternoons are the best times to mow as it’s not too hot during these windows of time. Mowing at the hottest point of the day will cause the grass undue stress and may overexert you as well.
  • Do not mulch during the early Spring, you want to remove as much dead grass as possible from the lawn. You can start to mulch in late Spring and early Summer.

Should you consider to hire professionals to take care of your lawn maintenance, Como Maintenance Services will be happy to assist you.
